INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE

3 Robbery Suspects Arrested In Hotel Room.

Three robbery suspects have been arrested along with a manager of a hotel by policemen from the Igando Police Division in a popular hotel in Egan, on the outskirts of Lagos, southwest Nigeria.

They were arrested at Love International Hotel, Isuti road, Egan, which they allegedly used as a hideout from where they carry out their criminal activities.

The suspects are: Victor Nwakocha, 40, Samuel Eugine, 32 and Chinedu Ilo, 32.

The manager of the hotel, Abrahim Akpovo, was also charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court for allowing robbers operate from the hotel.

Police sources alleged that the manager, who is now in prison custody at Kirikiri, Apapa, Lagos, allowed them and other suspected criminals to stay in the hotel, and registered them as guests, using fake identification and addresses, so that they will not be traced by the police. The police said this had been going on for a while.

However, their alleged nefarious activities were blown open when the suspects snatched a trailer at Apapa, Lagos, took it to an undisclosed location and started selling parts of the vehicles.

Checks in the hotel record book showed that there was no trace of their real names in the guests’ register.

Police allegedly discovered that the suspects have been living there for some time before they were eventually arrested.

Though no weapons were found on them, police sources alleged that they are notorious criminals who have been on the police wanted list.

The trio were alleged to have snatched a Mac Trailer with registration number XP06FKJ belonging to Anzeel International company based in Apapa.

Though the value of the vehicle was N6 million, they confessed that they sold its parts for N900,000.

They were all charged before the court on separate charges.

Akpovo was charged with felony, for harbouring suspected robbers in the hotel, while the trio were charged with stealing before the presiding magistrate, Mrs M. B. Folami.

They pleaded not guilty and were granted bail separately and remanded in prison custody pending when they will meet their bail conditions.

The matter was adjourned till 22 Febuary, 2012.

9 Suspects Escape From Police Cell.

The Edo state police command is yet to come to terms with how nine suspected robbers escaped from the Special Anti-Crime Squad (SARS) located at the state Police Command.

The robbers were said to have escaped two days after they were arrested and transferred from the Ogida Police station in the state to SARS.

The robbers had planned their escape, one of them told a policeman on duty he wanted to get water.

Once the policeman came and opened the cell gate, the suspects descended on him after which they escaped.

Though the police authorities have remained silent about the incident, sources confirmed that the policemen on duty the night the suspects escaped have been arrested and are currently in detention while a manhunt for the suspects continues.

When the Police Public Relations Officer in the state was contacted, he said the state Commissioner of Police, Manko Mohammed Umar, who has just resumed duty, was still holding meetings with the senior police officers and would react at the appropriate time.
