SOLDIERS ON TOUR



Army begins promotion exercise for officers in Lagos.


The Nigerian Army has said its week-long practical promotion examination for officers from lieutenants to captains would start on Feb 12, at the 81 Division headquarters in Lagos.
Lt.-Col. K.O. Ogunsanya, said the exercise, which would end on Feb 17, was aimed at testing the professional competence of the officers.
Ogunsanya, therefore, asked residents of the area not to panic on witnessing the large movement of its men within the period.
The statement reads, “The practical promotion examination in the Nigerian Army is an annual event meant to test the ability, quick mental appreciation as well as professional competence of officers of the rank of lieutenant.
“Furthermore, the practical examination is part of the requirement every combatant officer must pass to enable him earn a promotion to the rank of captain.”
Meanwhile, the examination president and Commander, Training and Doctrine Command, Maj.-Gen. Joseph Okunbor, will address team leaders, members of examination panel, directing staff and the candidates at 192 Battalion, Owode, Ogun State on February 12.
