EASTER BOMBER BEAT KADUNA SECURITY.

President of the Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria, Ona Ekhomu has described the Easter Day bombing in Kaduna metropolis as evidence that target-hardening of facilities alone could not solve the problem of terrorism in Nigeria.
Ekhomu explained that as a result of credible intelligence of planned suicide attack received, major government facilities and places of worship were adequately hardened with a variety of situational crime prevention measures.
He lamented that when the Kaduna bomber struck, he chose an undefended target of Okada riders who were having their breakfast.
Conducting a critical analysis of the Easter Bomb, Ekhomu said while the efforts of government and organizations were geared toward facility defense, the terrorists identified the vulnerability that existed in a crowd and exploited it, killing over 40 persons in the process.
The security expert said the goal of the Bokites was to cause massive destruction like they did in the Sallah Bomb incident in Damaturu on November 2011 and the Christmas Bomb incident at Madala, Niger State in December 2011.
The Easter bomb was designed to cause huge loss of lives inside a church auditorium, but the bomber’s attempts to penetrate were rebuffed by vigilant church security personnel.
The Easter Bomb proved that security enforcement in places of worship was effective and useful,  It achieved the physical security goal of denying the suicide agent the opportunity to detonate his explosive payload.
Ekhomu condoled with family members of victims and advised Kaduna citizens to donate blood for the treatment of blast victims.
He called upon Kaduna Government to install city-wide CCTV system in Kaduna metropolis to enable tracking and detection of suicide bombers, and advised security agents to be more vigilant and alert in their duties.
He said security agents conducting checkpoint operations should avoid the security ritualism trap whereby vehicles are checked perfunctorily or not at all in order to collect tips.
The AISSON boss praised the efforts of community leaders in Kaduna for creating security awareness in the community which has led to the discovery and defusing of many suspected improvised explosive devices.
He called for the community security awareness program to be extended to Okada (Achaba) riders who tend to congregate in large numbers and become unwitting targets of suicide bombers.
