Police denies attack on IGP’s convoy in Kano

The Nigerian Police Force has denied media report that some members of the Boko Haram sect had on Wednesday attacked the convoy of the Inspector General of Police, Moahmmed Abubakar in Kano injuring two police officers.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olushola Amore who confirmed that two unidentified gunmen had attacked and shot two police officers said that the officers were however not in the convoy of the IGP who had gone to Wudil on an inspection visit of the police college.
“While not disputing the fact that two unidentified men on a motor bike had attacked two conventional policemen at a filling station in Hotoro area of Kano, shooting one on the hand and another one on the leg and running away on their motorcycle. Those two policemen were not on the convoy of the IG,” Mr Amore said.
He said that “the incidence did not take place near the convoy of the IG.”
The police spokesman said that the Inspector General of police had gone to inspect some projects at the police college at Wudil and that some journalists accompanied him on the visit.
“The IG had even left Kano before he got the news through the CP of Kano that the two policemen who were posted to a nipping point for security in the Hotoro area of Kano were fired at by unidentified gunmen,” he said.
Mr Amore reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian police force to tackle the menace of terrorism, while urging the media to cross check information before using it so as not to heat up the polity.
