Man, 37, docked for receiving stolen FG jeep




Awwalu Usman, 37, was on Thursday charged before an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos with receiving a stolen Mercedes Benz Jeep belonging to the Federal Government.
Usman was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing before Chief Magistrate Oyindamola Ogala.
The Prosecutor, ASP Eshiet Eshiet told the court that the jeep, which was being driven by one Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, was stolen on April 18. at No 119, Awolowo Way, Ikeja.
Eshiet said that the Mercedes Benz jeep ML with registration number FG 122 EO5, valued at N8.7 million, was later found in custody of Usman.
``Usman unlawfully received the stolen Jeep knowing fully well that it was a stolen property,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said that the alleged offence is punishable under Section 516 and 427, Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Chief Magistrate Ogala granted the accused bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties and adjourned the case till Sept. 20 for further hearing.
3 in court over unlawful possession of hemp
Three men were on Thursday charged before Surulere a Senior Magistrates’ Court for allegedly having in their possession substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
The accused -- Fatai Ahmed; 45, Eze Anusiowu; 27 and Isumila Olohumiosebi, 23 -- are facing a charge of unlawful possession of hemp.
They, however, pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety each in like sum.
The prosecution said the men were caught with the substance by the police on Aug. 27 at Orile-Iganmu on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
Sgt. Raji Hakeem told the court that the offence contravened Section 88 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
Magistrate M.K.O. Fadeyi said the sureties must be community leaders in their respective areas.
Further hearing of the case was adjourned till Sept. 23.
