New Lagos police boss vows to fight crime frontally, warns corrupt officers
New Lagos Police Commissioner, Umaru Manko, has assured that he was in the state to fight crime and criminality to a stand still.
He also warned men and officers of the command to shun corruption and corrupt practices, as any officer caught would be dismissed.
At a briefing, Manko said Lagos was not a strange terrain to him, adding that he had worked at various formations in the metropolis as a junior officer before his present posting.
He said the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, was to turn the police round, adding that it was on that strength, he will work assiduously to ensure that Lagosians sleep with their eyes closed.
He said: “I want to assure all and sundry that the man who sent me here did not make mistake in doing so.
And, in line with the vision of the IG, I want to assure that we will do all within the available logistics and manpower to give Lagosians the best in crime fighting.”
Warning that the command will not hesitate to dismiss and prosecute corrupt officers, he said, “Corruption has been seen as one of the major challenges confronting men and officers of the police.
By the special grace of God, we are determined to fight the menace and to that effect, we are to going to resuscitate the X-Sqaud department.”
The X-Sqaud is made up policemen, who arrest fellow police men involved in corruption. We will not hesitate to dismiss and prosecute any officer or officers who indulge in corrupt practices.
Again, we want to warn members of the public that both the giver and taker of bribe are liable to the offense; so we shall also deal with civilians caught giving bribes to the policemen.
