NIS warns passport applicants not to patronise touts

The Nigeria Immigration Service says it will not accept responsibility for the non-issuance of passports processed through touts.
Its Passport Control Officer in Ikoyi, Lagos,Emma Ogbumuo who gave the warning warned that the NIS would not be liable for errors made on passports processed via touts.
Ogbumuo cautioned prospective passport applicants to refrain from patronising illegal agents who usually loitered outside passport offices, stressing that these individuals often caused irreparable damage.
He noted that some of the agents, who purportedly carried out passport documentations, were more concerned with the money they extorted from the applicants.
Ogbumuo said complaints by some applicants who bemoaned their inability to obtain passports after giving large sums of money to illegal agents were currently being investigated at the NIS headquarters in Abuja.
He, therefore, appealed to prospective applicants to always apply for passports personally through formal channels, adding that they could also seek clarifications on the documentation processes from immigration officials whenever the need arose.
Ogbumuo reiterated that the NIS would not accept responsibility for any misdemeanor or errors by illegal passport agents.
