NDLEA destroys 8,000kg of seized drugs in Badagry.




The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, on Friday at its Ibereko-Badagry Area Command, destroyed about 8,000kg worth of seized hard drugs.
The 705.79kg of cocaine and heroine; 7.1kg of cannabis and 96.1kg of psychotic drugs were destroyed.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ahmadu Giade, the Chairman/ Chief Executive of NDLEA, said most of the destroyed drugs were imported from Europe and the Americas.
Drugs are known to aggravate crime. And proceeds from the trade distorts our national economy because the gains are laundered into our economy with its adverse social consequences, he said.
The NDLEA boss disclosed that all the destroyed drugs were seized within Lagos State alone, adding that our plan for Lagos and the entire country is to take drugs off the streets."
He said that the agency would intensify its strategy of cutting off drug supply to addicts by tracing the drugs to where they were planted.
Nicholas Ajaduruonye, the Area Commander, NDLEA Seme Border, said the public destruction of the exhibits was in keeping with the agency's transparent posture.
He said such event was a strategy to continually engage stakeholders - nationally and internationally - in the agency’s main statutory activity.
He said the destruction exercise was in conformity with NDLEA’s operational process of arrest/seizure, investigation/prosecution and eventual destruction.
The ceremony, the third of its kind this year, was attended by representatives of all security agencies in the country, members of civil society groups and the public.
