2 paraded as suspected killers of Lagos bank manager.




The Police has paraded a businessman and his brother-in-law as the suspected killers of a bank manager in Lagos last week.
The Ebute Meta branch Manager of Spring Bank, Emeka Ohazurulike, was allegedly stabbed to death by a man suspected to be owing him N11 million.
Lagos State Police Command’s spokesman, Samuel Jinadu, who paraded the suspects, said one of them was arrested on Saturday while attempting to board a South-East-bound bus at a motor park.
He said the deceased had gone to the suspect’s house at 24,Silver St., Satellite Town, Lagos, to collect the money given to his ``friend’’ to do a business before he was stabbed to death.
Jinadu said an occupant of the house reported the case of the alleged stabbing to the police.
``The deceased was later rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead as a result of excessive bleeding,’’ he told newsmen.
The spokesman said the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.
6 Arraigned Over Mushin Gang War.
Men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police, Lagos State Command, have arraigned six persons arrested over the crisis in Fadeyi/Mushin area of Lagos, before the Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court, Ebute-Metta, Lagos.
Those arraigned include two brothers, Ayodele Olomojobi, 30, Ayodele Abolaji, 25, Junior Yamah, 24, Samuel Okosun, 26, Okoro Ifeanyi, 35, and Afis Sulaimon, 26.
Police alleged that the six persons were on the 18 June, 2011, at about 2.30 p.m while armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, conspired among themselves to cause chaos in the area.
The Ayodeles were alleged to have killed one Uche Nwabi during the crisis.
They were arraigned on two count charges of conspiracy and murder while the other accused persons were also arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and possession of dangerous weapons with intent to cause chaos and panic to passerby.
The offences, according to Innocent Effiong, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, who is the Prosecuting Police Officer, are punishable under Sections 516, 316(2) and 69 of the Criminal Code Cap. C17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
The presiding magistrate, Mr. T. Abolarinwa, ordered that the Ayodeles be remanded in prison, pending the advaice of Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP). The other four accused persons were granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, the magistrate ordered, must show evidence of three years tax payment to Lagos State government, means of livelihood and must be residing within the magisterial district, which the judge ordered must be verified by the court prosecutor.
The case was adjourned till 16 September, 2011.
The six defendants were ordered to be remanded in Ikoyi Prison as they could not meet the bail conditions.
Man,36, docked for drugging woman to steal her property
A 36-year-old man was docked before a Surulere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly drugging one Justina Ogara in a bus with intent to steal her property.
The accused, Emmanuel Okeke, is standing trial before Magistrate M. K. O Fadeyi on a two-count charge of administering a drug with intent to steal.
The prosecutor, Constable Ishola Samuel told the court that the accused on Aug. 2, at about 5 p. m. at Ojuelegba, Lagos, drugged Ogara while she was in a commercial bus.
Samuel said the accused bought bottled water, put a sleeping tablet into it and gave it to the victim who was sitting by his side.
He said that after successfully drugging his victim, he stole her bag containing money and a laptop valued at N50,000.
The prosecutor said that it was the other passengers who noticed what happened, raised an alarm and alerted the police.
According to him, the offence contravened Sections 331 and 390 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The Magistrate granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum after he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Fadeyi, however, adjourned the case till Aug. 19 for further hearing.
Police arraign man, 19, for allegedly stealing N175
A 19-year-old man, Kenneth Ehohe, has been docked at an Itire Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing N175.
The accused, who is facing a two-count charge of felony and stealing, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Iferegomoni, said the accused broke into a shop belonging to one Durodola Ayobami at 47, Dosumu St., Itire and stole the money.
According to him, the accused broke into the shop at about 1 p.m. on July 27.
Ayobami said the offences contravened Sections 390 and 414 of Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
Chief Magistrate Abimbola Awogboro granted the accused bail in the sum of N2,000 with one surety in like sum, who must be his blood relation.
She adjourned the case till Sept. 15 for further hearing.
Lagos trader threatens to quit 11-year-old marriage
A trader, Kafayat Jimoh, has pleaded with a Grade `B` Customary Court in Oshodi, Lagos, to dissolve her 11-year-old marriage, citing constant battery by her husband.
Kafayat told the court that her husband, Kehinde Jimoh, had also failed to ``perform his responsibilities’’ as a husband and father in the home.
Kafayat had on Aug. 3 approached the court for the dissolution of the marriage on the grounds of battery and threat to life.
The respondent, Kehinde, a mechanical engineer, described the allegations as untrue, saying ``I have been performing my duties in the home.
The President of the court, A.I. Olorunimbe, after listening to both parties, ordered the elder brother of the respondent, Amidu Olaniyi, to intervene and call a family meeting to resolve their differences.
She adjourned the case till Oct. 26 to enable mediator to report to the court the outcome of his reconciliatory effort.
