DSP SAMUEL JINADU PPRO LAGOS

Lagos Police Command tasks vehicle owners on tracking system.

The Lagos Police Command has advised vehicle owners to use tracking systems to help recover the vehicles when stolen.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Samuel Jinadu, gave the advice at the Police Headquarters, Ikeja, while parading one Bolaji Owolabi, 43, from Ijebu-Ode.
He said that SP. Abba Kyari and another officer arrested Owolabi on June 8 in Ijebu-Ode while “hibernating” in a hotel room with his friend.
The PPRO said the command recorded another success in crime reduction by the arrest of a gang member who worked with Israel Ubatuegwu arrested few days ago.
According to him, the police after arresting Ubatuegwu took him to his residence in Lape, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area where a search resulted in the recovery of eight stolen cars.
He said combing for other gang members who went into hiding after the arrest of Ubatuegwu resulted in Bolaji’s arrest.
He said Kyari and others went with Bolaji to 25 Odumola St., Epe, Lagos, where 12 vehicles, including eight Toyota Corolla, four Toyota Camry and one Honda Accord cars were recovered.
Jinadu called on the public to warn their children and wards to desist from stealing, as they would be arrested and prosecuted.
Owolabi told newsmen that he had a master’s degree in aviation maintenance from the Islamic International University, Pakistan.
He said he was a dealer in cars and phones but met one Festus from Benin at a shopping complex in Lagos who introduced him to Bolaji as a custom officer and he began to buy cars from them.
He claimed he was a car dealer and not a car snatcher.
Bolaji, on his part, said that he bought some cars from Festus at between N800,000 and N900,000 which he resold for N1 million and above.
The police had early last week arrested and paraded Ubatuegwu and recovered eight cars from him.
Ubatuegwu claimed he was the caretaker of Festus’s cars parked in his (Ubatuegwu) compound and was not aware that they were stolen.
