New Badagry DPO assures on peace, security

The newly appointed Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Badagry, Lagos State, CSP Dankoli Mohammed has promised to restore peace and security to the troubled ancient town.

The DPO, CSP Salihu Samuel, the Divisional Crime Officer, DSP Okedusi Samson and the Operations Officer, ASP Taofeek Afolabi were on May 24 killed by unknown assailants after the killing of an army sergeant.

The sergeant was reportedly shot dead by three policemen attached to the Lagos State Security Outfit, the Rapid Response Squad in Badagry on May 22.

Mohammed said he was ``prepared to go all out to restore peace to the troubled town.

The DPO, who was redeployed to Badagry on May 25, said peace started returning to the area after a visit by a delegation of Army and Police officers.

He said there is no more problem in Badagry since last Friday when the GOC, 9 Brigade, Ikeja, Maj.- Gen. Kenneth Minima; AIG Suleiman Fakaye; and State Police Commissioner, Alkali Yakubu came for a reconciliatory meeting.

The trio, who visited the scene of the killings, the Divisional Police Headquarters and 242 Battalion, Ibereko, appealed to men an officers of both the army and the police to keep the peace.

Suspected PHCN vandals docked .

A trader and a truck attendant were on Thursday charged before a

Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly vandalizing property belonging to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

Christian George, 26, and Anthony Pius, 26, are facing trial on a four-count charge of conspiracy,

vandalizing, breach of peace, and damaging before Chief Magistrate, Mrs Abiola Soladoye.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Olaide told the court that the accused allegedly committed the offence on May 28 at Falohun St., Aguda, Surulere.

He said the offences committed contravened Sections 249 (d), 451, 509, and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

Soladoye granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The Magistrate ruled that one of the sureties must be a civil servant and the other should be a reputable community leader in their respective areas.

The case has been adjourned till June 22 for further hearing.

24-year-old docked for allegedly killing sister.

A 24-year-old man, Ndifreke Michael on Thursday appeared before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly killing his 23-year-old sister, Loveth, with a stick.

Michael was brought before the Magistrate M.O. Olajuwon on a one count charge of unlawful killing, but his plea was not taken.

The prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Essien said that the accused, who was allegedly drunk, went into Loveth’s room while she was sleeping and hit her.

The prosecutor said the offence took place on April 19 at about 4.30 am at 7, Ajose St, Mende, Maryland.

Essien said the offence contravened Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State and the accused might face a death sentence on conviction.

The magistrate ordered that Michael be remanded in prisons custody till July 19, pending the advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions.
