NDLEA BOSS

Court convicts Taiwanese, Chinese for importing 450kg cocaine.

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday sentenced a Taiwanese, Fong San, and a Chinese, Wang Richard, to 30 years and 15 years imprisonment respectively, for importing 450kg of cocaine.
Justice Okon Abang convicted Fong on the two-count, while Wang was convicted on a one-count charge.
They were sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on each of the count.
The NDLEA had in August 2010 arraigned the two foreigners on a four-count charge of allegedly importing cocaine from Chile, without any lawful authority, through the Tin Can Island Port, Lagos.
Three Nigerian clearing agents, Inua Mohammed, Ezeala Kingsley and Godswill Asomugha, were also arraigned along with the foreigners.
Justice Abang, however, discharged and acquitted the Nigerians on the grounds that the prosecution had found no evidence linking them with the crime.
The second accused testified that they were told that the container had in it their personal effects that were importing,’’ he said.
He also held that the NDLEA had no business in arraigning the clearing agents as they were doing their job.
Abang, in passing his sentence on the two convicted foreigners, held that they were not fair to a country which hosted them for about 29 years and 18 years.
