Vehicle tinted glasses: High Court adjourns suit against minister

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday adjourned till July 25 further hearing in a case filed by a Lagos-based lawyer, Mr Malachy Ugwummadu, against the minister of police affairs.

The attorney-general of the federation (AGF) and the inspector-general of police are joined as defendants in the suit filed in March.

Justice Okechukwu Okeke fixed the date when the case was mentioned.

He granted Ugwummadu’s prayer for the leave of the court to serve the court processes on the
defendants through the AGF’s chambers at Marina, Lagos.

Ugwummadu is asking the court to reverse the decision of the minister banning motorists from using tinted windows

The lawyer claimed in the originating summon that the minister’s exemption of some government officials from the rule violates the principle of equality as enshrined in the constitution.

He argued that Section 1(2) of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act does not allow the police to screen applications for the use of tinted glasses based on political status.

He wants the court to declare that the oath of allegiance and the oath of office sworn to by minister mandated him to do the right thing to all manners of people, without fear or favour
