Floods sack police border post

Floods have sacked the Nigeria Police Post at the Nigeria-Benin border in Seme, Badagry.

The floods were caused by the recent downpour in the area.

Operations at police post were hampered on Friday as the building was ``virtually submerged’’ in the floods.

A makeshift bridge had to be provided to enable people to have access to the post.

Equally worrisome was how some of the seized vehicles, motorcycles and other exhibits had been submerged in the floods.

CSP Umar Mohammed, the Divisional Police Officer, said that the occurrence was a perennial challenge.

He said he had waite in vain for stakeholders from Badagry West Local Council Development Area to help out.

Customary court orders sealing off of house

The Somolu Customary Court in Lagos on Friday ordered the sealing off of a building on No. 2, Toriola St., Bariga, Lagos, over the refusal of its occupants to appear before it.

The Court President, Modupe Bajulaiye, said the landlord and his tenants were in contempt of the court order given on May 16.

Bajulaiye said the landlord, Taiwo Opadeyi, and the other accused were brought before the court by health officers from Bariga Local Council Development Area.

She said the accused were charged over the dilapidated state of the building and the filth around the premises.

The court, therefore, fined the nine tenants present in court N1,500 each and the landlord N10,000 for contempt of court and failure to repair the building.

The court also ordered the landlord to renovate the building within three months or else it would be demolished.

The council’s Chief Health Officer, Iyabowale Okeowo, said that the accused were facing a five-count charge.

Okeowo said the offence contravened Sections 7 and 8 of the Environmental Law of Lagos State.
