Police arraign man over theft of N5.2m bus

A 43-year-old man, Joel Uwafor has been charged before a Somolu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a bus valued at N5.2 million.

The accused, who is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, however, pleaded not guilty.

But the prosecutor, Insp. Akinlabi Adegoke said the accused committed the offence on Sept. 20 at Anifowose St., Somolu, Lagos.

He told the court that Uwafor stole a Toyota Hiace bus with registration no. XW 845 AKD, property of UBI Logistics and Transport Ltd.

Adegoke alleged that the accused broke into the bus and drove it off from where it was parked in Somolu at midnight.

He said the offence contravened Sections 390 (6) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

The Magistrate, B.O. Osunsanmi granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum adjourned the case till Oct. 25 for further hearing.
