Ban Ki-moon

UN condemns attacks on Nigerian churches

United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, has condemned the continued attacks on people at places of worship by terrorists in Nigeria.

The UN scribe’s condemnation is conveyed via a statement issued by his spokesperson, Martin Nesirky, in New York.

In the statement, Ban commiserated with the families of those who were killed in the attacks and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The Secretary-General condemns the continued targeting of innocent civilians at places of worship in Nigeria, as illustrated by Sunday's attacks on two churches in Jos and Biu, which killed six persons and wounded many others.

The statement said the UN chief was also worried about the subsequent violence that broke out in Jos.

It said Ban appealed to the citizens to remain calm while allowing the government to complete its investigation into the incidents, with a view to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
