Immigration officers arrest human trafficker in Ogun state

The Ogun State Command of Nigeria Immigration Service, said it arrested a Mrs. Amosan Nimonta at the Ajanlekoko, Idiroko border in Ipokia Local Government Area of the state for trafficking eight Nigerian women to Neighbouring Benin.

Nimonta, 33, said to be between the ages of 20 and 29, the Command’s Comptroller, Mr Greene Anik’Nweze, told pressmen in Abeokuta.

Anik’Nweze said “the unauthorised border leads to Benin Republic,” and adds that the suspect claimed to be transporting the girls to Agadex in Niger Republic where they will work as maids in her restaurant.

He said “this trend is very strange to the South West and I am passionately appealing to parents to be very careful who they give their children and wards to.
“Traffickers will surely destroy lives of our children, so parents must not sell or give out their children for any amount as doing so is a sin against God and humanity”.

The immigration officers also recovered fake Nigerian passports, charms and luggage following the arrest.

Both victims and suspected trafficker have been handed over to the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Person (NAPTIP), for rehabilitation and prosecution respectively.
