Venezuela-based Nigerian bags five years imprisonment for hard drug.

A Nigerian based in Venezuela, Erute Orowo has been sentenced to five years imprisonment for importing one point six five zero kilogram of cocaine.

Justice Cecilia Olatoregun-Ishola of the Federal High Court, Lagos, who handed down the judgment, said Orowo should serve the jail term with hard labour.

She said nothing but greed led him into committing the crime.

The convict had earlier pleaded guilty to the charge.

Orowo was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on a three-count-charge of importing cocaine through a South African airline flight from Venezuela to Nigeria sometimes in November last year.

Counsel to the Agency, Raphael Mikaiye told the court that Orowo was apprehended at the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja, while the aircraft was being cleared by security agents.

Counsel to Orowo,Yinka Oyetunde urged the court to temper justice with mercy, saying the accused did not waste the time of the court by pleading guilty.
