Man, 26, arraigned for attempted rape.
For allegedly attempting to rape a woman, a 26-year-old man, Ikechukwu Chuks, was on Friday charged before a Somolu Magistrates Court, Lagos.
Standing trial on a three-count charge of assault, attempted rape and unlawful damage, the accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp. A. Adegoke, said that the accused accosted the woman (name withheld), slapped her and made a frantic effort to rape her.
He said the offence was committed on Jan. 9 at a demolished petrol station in Gbagada, Lagos, a contravention of Sections 357 and 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The Magistrate, B.O. Osunsanmi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 bail with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till Feb. 11.
