Command to deploy police for Saturday's Reps re-run in Ekiti State

Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Olayinka Balogun, says all policemen will be deployed to cover House of Representatives re-run in Ekiti Central Federal Constituency II on Saturday.

Balogun told newsmen in Ado Ekiti that the police in the state would ensure security during the election and explained that only skeletal services would be provided in most other areas during the election.

He said the police and those from other states to complement the command, would be sent to Ekiti West, Ijero and Efon local government areas where the election would take place adding “all hands are on deck to ensure hitch-free polls.”

Balogun, who is also the Chairman of the Ekiti State Inter-Agency Consultative Committee, announced that “there will be no group movement of any kind in the affected areas as there will be no motorcade, siren or orderlies for any VIP.

He stated that ``there will also be no monitoring of election by VIPs and party chieftains as the Independent National Electoral Commission had made adequate preparation for independent monitors as stipulated by the Electoral Act.”

He warned politicians and political parties involved in the election “to shun violence and embrace peace.”
