8155 security personnel for LG elections in Enugu.






Some 8155 military and paramilitary personnel will be on duty on Saturday when citizens of Enugu State are expected to elect local government officials.
The Permanent Secretary in the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, Innocent Nnamani, gave the breakdown of the figure shows that the police will constitute the majority of the personnel with a 4,927-strong force, followed by the army with 1,200.
The civil defence corps will also provide 855 personnel while the air force and the road safety will provide 580 and 235 personnel.
According to Nnamani, the prisons (150), immigration (110), NDLEA (88) and customs (10) will provide the rest of the security personnel.
He said the security personnel would be deployed to the 17 local government areas to ensure peaceful elections.
The permanent secretary said the commission was on top of the situation, adding that all arrangements had been made to ensure a peaceful conduct of the elections.
