INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE

Police boss faults creation of state police

THE Nigeria Police Force has dashed the hope of some of the state governors calling for the establishment of state police, saying the structure of the country is not ripe for such institution.

The police also said creating state policing would degenerate into chaos and anarchy across the country.

Speaking during his tour of the South-South Commands, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the “F” Department, M.A. Yesufu, spoke with officers and men of the rank and file at the parade ground of Akwa Ibom state police command’s headquarters, Ikot Akpan-Abia, Uyo.

Yesufu warned those championing the cause for the creation of state police to jettison their ambition in the interest of the nation.

In his welcome address, the Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner, Solomon Arase said the Command’s manpower is grossly inadequate. Arase explained that about 600 officers and men would be required to form the nucleus of the Quick Response Squad, noting that, the deployment of more officers and men to the command would greatly enhance the operational capability of the command.
