The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has warned hotel owners to take precautionary measures of scrutinising their customers to avoid being used by drug traffickers.
Its Chairman, Ahmadu Giade in a statement signed by the Agency's spokesman, Ofoyeju Mitchell, said a confession by a suspected drug trafficker indicated that the suspect ingested 66 pieces of methamphetamine in a Lagos hotel.
Giade said the suspect, a 34 year old auto parts dealer, was caught a few days after another automobile importer was apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on arrival from the United States.
He said the London-bound passenger, an auto parts dealer at Ladipo market, Lagos, tested positive to drug ingestion at the screening area of the airport departure.
``He was to board a British Airways flight to London. While he was under observation, he excreted 66 pieces of powdery substance that tested positive to methamphetamine, weighing 1.310kg.
He urged members of the public and hotel owners to report suspected guests to the Agency or face prosecution along with drug traffickers.
He said that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.
