Fuel Subsidy Protest:Police Boss Promises to Protect Registered Protesters.
The Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim has assured of protection from security agencies but only if they are registered the Inspector General announced the plans after a closed door meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs and the State Security Service.
The Police Boss said Nigerians have every right to protest within the purview of the laws but the decision to protect only registered protesters is to ensure that the police have adequate control of all the routes and areas of protests.
Meanwhile several protests being are being staged across the country,in Minna, the Niger state capital three youths involved in the protests against fuel subsidy removal were arrested.
The arrests were made as police clashed with youths, who were prevented from gaining access to the polo ground venue of the protests.
Youths across the country have planned protests march across state capitals for today against the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.
Also,the Nigerian Bar Association Warri branch in Delta state and other groups staged a peaceful protest in Warri, to challenge the January first fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government and the subsequent hike in petrol pump price.
The protesters made up of the Nigeria Bar Association , Civil Rights Society Group, Human Rights Defenders and other groups including members of the public came out in large numbers at about 8:00am at Effurun round-about, and marched through Jakpa road, Udu-Sapele-Warri express road, Enerhen among other places.
Security operatives including armed policemen, army and the state security service were fully available to ensure that the rally was not hijacked by hoodlums.
