Chief of Army Staff offers solution to violence

The Chief of Army staff, Lt.- Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, on Tuesday said that violence in the country would be curbed if Nigerians in all sectors contributed their quota to its eradication.

Ihejirika spoke at the opening ceremony of Combat Support Arms Training Week in Lagos.

He added :``With the ongoing joint operation by all the agencies, the level of violence can definitely be reduced drastically if all sectors begin to do what they are supposed to do.’’

He assured Nigerians that the army was aware of the current security threats, adding that a number of the perpetrators had been arrested and were currently being interrogated.

Ihejirika also said the army had moved further to produce boats locally in order to reduce the high cost of rehabilitating armoured vehicles.

He further ordered that every officer or soldier in Lagos must be accounted for by the commander adding that it had to do security and curbing indiscipline.

The five-day workshop with the theme `` Combat Support Arms and Contemporary Security Threats ’’ has navy, air force, police and immigration personnel in attendance.
