Falling crane injures 3 construction workers.

Three workers of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) were injured on Friday in Lagos when a tower crane collapsed at its Lagos Light Rail site, near the National Theatre.

One of the workers, sitting in a construction vehicle below the crane, was critically injured.

The two others were working on the crane when the accident happened.

An eyewitness said the injured were taken to a hospital after the incident.

One of the workers, who pleaded anonymity, complained that the company had no safety measures in place for them.

He also said workers who had health challenges were left to fend for themselves.

The witness said they were sometimes forced to work in inclement weather, including in the rain.

He said they had reported the matter to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport
Authority (LAMATA) which has promised to look into our complaints, but up till now,
nothing has been done.

LAMATA is the Lagos State Government agency that supervises the light rail project.

Attempts to speak with Chinese officials at the site were futile as they claimed they could not speak English.
