Man docked for allegedly beating wife
The police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned Ifeanyi Ubabuko before an Ilupelu-Oshodi Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting his wife, Anthonia.
The accused is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and breach of the peace.
Ubabuko, 38, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that Ubabuko committed the alleged offence on April 23, at about 1.30p.m., at Mosaku St., Oshodi, Lagos.
Olatunde said the accused beat Anthonia in public and caused her bodily harm over a disagreement between them.
He said the offence contravened Sections 509 and 249(d) Cap C17, Vol. II of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State.
The parties have been married for 10 years and that they have four children.
The Magistrate, M.R. Osho-Adebiyi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case till July 20 for mention.
Principal charged with stealing N3.5m
A school principal, Mary Olawole, who allegedly stole N3.5 million of school’s fund was on Thursday charged before an Ilupeju-Oshodi Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Oluwole, 40, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing the money which belonged to St John’s College, Ikorodu, Lagos.
She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that the accused and others at large allegedly committed the offence on June 13 at the college.
He said the offence contravened Sections 516 and 390 (9) Cap 17, Vol. II of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State.
The Magistrate, M.R Osho-Adebiyi, granted the accused a bail of N250,000 with two sureties in the like sum.
The case was adjourned till July 21 for further hearing.
3 in court over alleged theft of Jeep
Three men who allegedly stole a Jeep from a woman on Thursday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on charges of conspiracy and theft.
The accused-- Izuchukwu Okereke (21); Ikechukwu Nwakama (26); and Samuel Ogbonnaya (20), were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Abiola Soladoye.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Olaide told the court that the trio stole a Honda CRV Jeep valued at N1.5 million from one Lilian Okolobi on June 24 at No. 4 Fred Anyam St., Surulere.
He said the alleged offences contravened Sections 390 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The court granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each, and adjourned the case till Aug. 10 for further hearing.
In a related development, a 22-year-old man, Monday Abu, was charged with stealing a motorcycle worth N91,000, belonging to one Mr Sulaimon Umaru.
Abu, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge before the same court.
The prosecutor, Olaide, said that Abu stole the motorcycle on July 3 at Orile-Iganmu.
He said the alleged offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The court granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case has been adjourned till Aug. 10 for further hearing.
Police arraign three men for alleged visa forgery
The police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned Jamiu Olanrewaju, 30; Jimoh Kamoru, 47; and Kareem Lateef, 48, before a Yaba Magistrates’ court for allegedly forging an Indian visa.
The accused are facing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, forgery and presentation of forged document before Magistrate Kemisola Ajayi.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Benson Emurehi told the court that the accused and others at large committed the alleged offence on Sept. 30, 2010.
He said the accused, at No 54, Taiwo St., Lagos Island, Lagos, conspired with others to forge the visa.
Emurehi said the accused forged a visa to India on a Nigerian passport with number AG890523. It was purportedly valid for two months.
The prosecutor said one of the accused, Olanrewaju, on Jan. 17, presented the passport at the Indian High Commission, at No.8A, Walter Carrington Crescent Victoria Island to upgrade the visa.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 467,468 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws, Lagos State.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Ajayi granted the accused bail in the sum of N250, 000 with one surety each in like sum.
She adjourned the case till July 20 for further hearing.
