GOVERNOR IBIKUNLE AMOSUN

Amosun bans NURTW, RTEAN in Ijebu-Ode.

Worried by persistent violent clashes among members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ijebu-Ode Local Government area of Ogun State, the state Governor, Ibikunle Amosun has announced the proscription of two transport unions in the council area.
The proscription came barely 24 hours after factional groups of the NURTW allegedly led by Efele and Awada unleashed terror on the ancient town, leaving three dead.
The proscription also affected the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) activities in the council area.
Amosun made the announcement while on-the-spot assessment of Ijebu Ode, directing the state Police Commissioner, Nicholas Nkemdem to ensure hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration in the state.
The proscription came as a surprise to members of the two transport unions, NURTW and RTEAN operating in the five garages within the council area.
The affected garages are Lagos, Epe, Ibadan, Obalende and Olabisi Onabanjo Market.
Amosun also ordered the arrest by the Police of factional transport leaders of the unions, who had been indicted as the masterminds of the raging crises in the town.
The state governor also directed the General Manager of the state Parks and Garages, Ayo Ogunsolu and Chairman, Transition Committee of Ijebu-Ode LGA, Raheem Sarumi to constitute a task force that would administer the garages until normalcy was fully restored.
