POLICEMAN TAKES A NAP WHILE ON DUTY

Corrupt ZCIDs, SCIDs to face Ringim’s sledge hammer.

Corrupt police officers in charge of Zonal Criminal Investigation Departments, ZCIDs and State Criminal Investigation Departments, SCIDs, are to face dismissal and prosecution, if found guilty of the myriads of complaints against them.
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Hafiz Ringim, disclosed this at a meeting with Deputy Commissioners of Police, DCPs and Assistant Commissioners of Police, ACPs in Abuja.
Ringim noted that he had been receiving lots of complaints from the public about the conduct of the ZCIDs and SCIDs, adding that if these complaints were true, affected officers would face disciplinary action.
The IGP expressed worry on the number of complaints he had received recently and vowed that it must be addressed squarely.
The police boss hinted that the complaints bordered on non-performance, highhandedness and cases of extortion, and assured that these unprofessional conducts must change.
Ringim also blamed the officers of arbitrariness on the issue of bail, saying that bail was absolutely free as long as a detainee had met all the bail conditions.
He said that the meeting was to evaluate their performance towards the fight against crime and criminality, stressing that they had to look inward in order to change the perception of the public about their activities.
While admonishing members of the public to always resist the corrupt tendencies of some bad eggs in the force, he urged them to come up with verifiable evidence that would enable them fish out and prosecute corrupt officers amongst them.
