Bus conductor faces theft, felony charges
The Police in Lagos on Wednesday arraigned a 21-year-old bus conductor, Nurudeen Kazeem, for allegedly stealing N190,000.
The defendant, who is standing trial before an Apapa Chief Magistrates Court, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of felony, stealing and conspiracy.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Benedict Unawunwa, told the court that Kazeem and others still at large had on Dec. 26, 2010 at about 4.30 a.m. at Alaba Oro Road, Ajegunle, Lagos, ambushed Japhet Nwosu, who was trekking and dispossessed him of the money.
He said the accused also nicked an Oceanic Bank cheque book and ATM card from Ogechi Odozor at the same spot and time.
He said the offences contravened Sections 390 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The Chief Magistrate,Oluyemisi Adelaja, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Feb. 7.
