IGP HAFIZ RINGIM

The Inspector-General of Police,Hafiz Ringim says N15 billion has been given to the police by the Federal Government for the procurement of equipment and allowances of personnel during the forthcoming general election.

Ringim made this known in Lagos, just as he read the Riot Act to perpetrators of heinous crimes, warning that the days when they committed such act with impunity were over.

He hinted that specialists in various fields had been enlisted into the force, saying they had been professionally and adequately trained in investigation and detection of perpetrators of high-profile crime such as kidnapping, politically motivated killings and other criminal acts.

The Police Boss who spoke at an interactive session with newsmen in Lagos, shortly after the passing out parade and induction of 1074 Cadets Assistant Superintendents of Police Specialists Course 1/2010, into the Nigeria Police, at the Police College, Ikeja, warned that anyone who engaged in any act of criminality did that at his or her own risk.

Declaring that no evil doer would escape the full wrath of the law, no matter how highly placed, Ringim said with the enlistment of the specialists, there is no hiding place for the criminals because they have been professionally trained to investigate major obnoxious crimes with the view to bringing the perpetrators to book.

Commenting on the preparedness of the police for the forthcoming general election, the police boss said the force was 100 percent prepared in ensuring a free and fair general election.

While assessing the crime situation in the Niger Delta region, Ringim stated that major kidnappings had drastically reduced in the area, just as he added that efforts were in top gear to eradicate it completely.
