Shop assistant, sister docked for alleged theft of N8 million.
A shop assistant and his sister, have been docked at an Igbosere Magistrates Court in Lagos for allegedly forging certificates, testimonial and stealing N8 million.
The accused, Ndubuisi Ofuelo, 22; Chinyere Ofuole, 21, were said to have forged a Senior Secondary School Result NECO, a Testimonial and stole the sum of N8 million.
They are standing trial on a four-count charge of impersonation, forgery, stealing and concealing theft.
The Prosecutor, SP. Asuquo Effiong, told the court that Ndubuisi forged a NECO result and name to gain employment at Health Plus Ltd.
Effiong added that between 2009 and 2010, he stole the sum of N8 million from his employer.
The Prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 390(9), 467, 484 and 519 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, F.O. Aigbokhaevbo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N700,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case till March 3, for trial.

Housewife, two men docked for alleged arson and theft.
Two men who allegedly stole N1.1 million and set goods worth N2.1 million on fire, were arraigned in Lagos on Friday with a housewife who alleged received the stolen materials.
The accused, Stanley Nwachukwu (27), Daniel Moweta (26), and the alleged receiver of the stolen goods, Theresa Shorunke (25), are facing a six-count charge of felony, conspiracy, arson, and receiving stolen goods.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution said the accused and others at large, committed the offence on Nov. 1, 2010 at Awodi-Ora Market, Ajegunle, Lagos when they broke into a shop and stole goods belonging to Caroline Osuji.
According to the prosecutor, Cpl. John Ibinedien, the woman has a case to answer for receiving some of the stolen lace and linen materials worth N997,500.
He said Nwachukwu, a printer, and his accomplice, Moweta, a businessman, with others at large unlawfully set fire to Mrs Osuji’s shop and destroyed clothing materials worth N2.1 million.
He said the offence contravened Sections 390 (9), 411, 427, 443 (a) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
Kenneth Aigbe, Counsel to the accused person, pleaded with the court to grant his clients bail on liberal terms.
Chief Magistrate E.O. Ogundare, granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 and two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned further hearing in the case till Feb. 25.

3 labourers in court for allegedly stealing electronics worth N560,000
Three labourers have been arraigned at an Igbosere Magistrates Court, Lagos, for stealing electronics worth N560,000.
The accused, Stephen Bulus (27), Adamu Ibrahim (20) and Rabiu Kazeem (27), are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful conversion and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Nicholas Anieke, said that Ibrahim and Kazeem with others at large sometime in January at Dosunmu Street stole 20 cartons of DVD players and five cartons of T12 transistor radio.
He said the items, property of one Mr Gabriel Williams, were valued at N560,000.
He said the two accused were hired by Williams to move the goods to a location but they instead converted them to their own use.
Anieke said the confessional statement of the accused led to the arrest and discovery of the goods with Bulus who was being charged with receiving stolen items.
He said the offence contravened Sections 390, 427 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2003.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and were granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
The Magistrate, Ope Agbe, adjourned the case till Feb. 23 for further hearing.

Driver bags two years jail for stealing battery
A 38-year-old, Tirimisiyu Ganiyu, who pleaded guilty to stealing a generator battery, property of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi Araba, Lagos, have been sentenced to two years in prison.
Ganiyu, a driver, pleaded guilty to the charge before a Mushin Magistrates Court presided over by Christana Adesol-Ikpatt.
The convict pleaded with the magistrate to have mercy on him, blaming the devil for the crime.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Sam Adam, told the court that Ganiyu on Jan. 11 stole the battery worth N35,000.
In her judgment, the chief magistrate sentenced the convict to two years imprisonment with an option of N50,000 fine.
Ganiyu was unable to pay the fine and was taken to the Kirikiri Maximum Prisons.
In another development, 19-year-old Austine Ayinde was docked in the same court for allegedly stealing a Tiger’’ generator, valued at N15,000.
The prosecution told the court that Ayinde stole the generator, property of one Mr Ayemowa Fatai, on Jan. 17 at 23 Adegbola St., Ilasamaja, Lagos.
Ayinde pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
The magistrate adjourned the case till Feb. 21 for further hearing.

Two men, who allegedly stole property worth N1.04 million, were on Friday charged before an Apapa Chief Magistrates Court, Lagos.
The duo, Lucky Aderupeton, 21 and Inenyi Brayi, 28, are standing trial on a four-count charge of felony, conspiracy, stealing and house breaking.
They pleaded not guilty and were granted bail.
The prosecutor, Cpl. John Iberedem, said that the accused had on Nov. 4, 2010 at 18, Jakande St., Kirikiri, Lagos, at about 2.30 a.m., conspired to commit the crime.
He said the accused broke into the house of Chief Barnabas Igwe at night and stole one water pump, one computer, rear lights of two jeeps and an electric meter, valued at N1 million.
Iberedem told the court that the accused also stole four Nokia handsets valued at N46, 000, property of Messrs Adeoye Johnson and Olalekan Ayoola.
The offence, he said, contravened Sections 390, 411 and 516 of the Criminal Code, laws of Lagos State.
The Chief Magistrate, E. O. Ogundare, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 each, with two sureties in like sum.
He said the sureties, who should show evidence of tax payment in Lagos State, should also be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned till Feb. 18 for further hearing.

Man Strips Policemen Naked
For allegedly stripping two policemen naked, a 27-year-old man, Akinoye Dada, was on Thursday charged before a Somolu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos.
Facing a six-count charge of assault, conspiracy, damage, breach of peace and causing grievous bodily harm, the accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
Dada, who is believed to be unemployed, was alleged to have conspired with others still at large to assault the policemen who came to arrest them for committing an offence.
According to the Prosecutor, Insp. A. Adegoke, the accused and his accomplices conducted themselves in a manner that caused a breach of the peace on Jan. 27 at about 6.30 p.m. on Bailey St., Somolu, Lagos.
He alleged that the accused were also caught smoking Indian hemp to induce themselves into negative action.
Adegoke, who gave the names of the assaulted policemen as Sgt. Olajide Komolafe and PC Williams Vandi, said the accused also tore their uniforms.
“In a bid to evade arrest, the accused assaulted the police officers by giving them several blows and biting them,” the prosecutor said.
He said the offence contravened Sections 70, 247, 356, 451 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The Magistrate, B.O. Osunsanmi granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety in like sum and adjourned the case till Feb. 16.
