FRSC CORPS MARSHALL,OSITA CHIDOKA

2 feared dead in multiple crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Two persons were feared dead and another seriously injured in a multiple accident at Ibafo on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway early on Wednesday.
The accident, which involved four tankers fully-loaded with petroleum products and an articulated vehicle loaded with iron rods, trapped commuters travelling to Ibadan for several hours.
The FRSC Unit Commander, Mowe-Ibafo, Olalekan Morakinyo, who confirmed the death, said that the accident occurred at about 6.30 a.m.
Morakinyo told newsmen at the scene that the FRSC was informed of the accident as soon as it occurred and officers immediately rushed to the scene. According to him, this led to an explosion and fire that gutted the vehicles.
Patrick Ogbuoku, Area Commander, Federal Fire Service, also confirmed that two corpses recovered at the scene had been handed over to the Ibafo Police Station.
Oghuoku said his men came all the way from Ojuelegba in Lagos when they learnt of the accident.

A witness, Sodik Raheem, a driver, said efforts to rescue the two passengers trapped by the ensuing fire proved abortive because of the intensity of the flame.

Raheem explained that two of the affected tankers were reported to have developed fault the previous day and that the owners had contacted their mechanics to tow them before the incident occurred.

AN accident occurred on Friday on the same route, claiming many lives.
