Man secures divorce because of wife’s refusal to accommodate siblings.




A Grade A’’ Customary Court in Somolu, Lagos, on Wednesday dissolved a seven-year-old marriage, following quarrels by the couple over accommodation of relatives.
The Court President, Modupe Bajulaiye, dissolved the union of Christian Okereke (38) and Mrs Stella Okeke (34).
Bajulaiye said the court’s efforts to save the marriage failed as the duo insisted on the dissolution of the marriage. The president granted the custody of their five-year-old daughter to Okereke who, she noted, had been responsible for her upkeep.
Okereke, a businessman, who filed for divorce, said Stella did not want to live under the same roof with his relatives.
The petitioner also said he sponsored Stella’s university education, yet she was not submissive to him.
In her response, Stella, a businesswoman, consented to the dissolution of the marriage, but pleaded with the court to grant her the custody of the their only child.

Man arraigned for injuring victim.




A cart pusher, John Apaju, was on Wednesday arraigned for allegedly stabbing a main in the back with a broken bottle and injuring his spinal cord in the process.
Apaju, 35, is standing trial before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on a one-count charge of assault.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The court was moved visibly moved when the victim, Musa Hamma, was brought in, aided by two people.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Daniel Ighodalo, alleged that Apaju on May 1 at the New Market area in Lekki, stabbed Hamma many times with a broken bottle, after they had a disagreement.
The Magistrate, A.O. Layinka, apparently moved by Hamma’s condition overruled an application by the defence counsel, Mr Collins Ozemhoya, that the parties were ready for an out-of-court settlement.
Layinka granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case till May 25 for further hearing.
