6 suspected robbers shot dead in Lagos.




At least six suspected armed robbers fell to the superior fire power of the police in different parts of the Lagos metropolis between Tuesday and Thursday, according to Samuel Jinadu, Lagos police Spokesman.
Jinadu said two suspects were killed at Alakuko, while two others were killed at Anthony Village in gun battles with police on Wednesday.
The police spokesman said a police patrol team accosted a gang of suspected armed robbers at about 7.30 a.m. at Alakuko on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and engaged the members in a gun battle, leaving two of them dead, while the others escaped. Items recovered from the suspects include two pistols, 30 live cartridges, four expended cartridges, Indian hemp and one unregistered motorcycle used for the operation.
In the Anthony Village incident, Jinadu said that suspected armed robbers on a motorcycle attempted to snatch a car, adding that two of the suspects were killed in a gun duel with the police.
Jinadu said one new motorcycle, one pistol and a live ammunition were recovered.

8 killed in Lagos accidents.
At least eight people were killed, while 15 others sustained injuries, in three different accidents which occurred on Friday in Lagos.
Eyewitnesses said six people were killed on the spot when a trailer lost control and ran over some commuters at the Agric Bus Stop in Ikorodu.
Another accident occurred at Ladipo Bus Stop, Mushin, involving a Molue with Reg. No. XD 313 AGU, in which 15 persons were seriously injured.
Ayo Salami, head of operations at the Lagos State Transport Management Authority, said nobody died in the Molue accident.
The LATSMA official said the accident occurred around 9.55 a.m. when the Molue bus fell into a ditch while trying to avoid hitting a car which stopped at the traffic light.
The Lagos State Police Command spokesman, Samuel Jinadu, confirmed the incident.

Two charged with allegedly stealing items valued at N650,000.
The police in Lagos on Friday arraigned Bello Jubril, 34, and Egbaugah Carnacious, 30, before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing items valued at N650, 000.
The accused appeared before Chief Magistrate Oyindamola Ogala on two- count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Eshiet Eshiet said that the accused and others now at large on Dec. 4, 2010 at Foar Plus Park, in Iddo Terminus, conspired to commit the offence.
He said they allegedly stole a suite case which contained perfumes, tiles, organizers, games, wallets, cufflinks, and other gift items valued N650, 000.
According to him, the items belong to Mr Ola Abimbola, who was about to board a passenger bus at the park at the time of the incident.
Eshiet told the court that the accused committed a crime which contravened Sections 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 17.Vol 2 Laws of Lagos State.
The court granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till May 30 for further hearing.

Commercial sex workers’ boss arraigned for assaulting colleague.
A self-styled chairperson of Commercial Sex Workers Association, Hope Abang, on Friday appeared before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly assaulting a colleague, Juliet Enege.
The accused had allegedly assaulted Enege over her refusal to accord her respect.
Abang, 33, who is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and stealing, has, however, entered a ``not guilty’’ plea.
But the Prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Essien, told the court that Abang, in her capacity as the chairperson of the sex workers operating from Hephzibah Hotel, Railway Line, Ebute Meta, committed the offence.
He said the offences, which were committed on May 4 at the hotel premises at about 11.00 p.m, contravened Sections 353 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The accused, on conviction, may be sentenced to seven years imprisonment.
The Magistrate, M.O. Olajuwon admitted her to a bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned further hearing to May 16.

Barrow pusher pleads guilty to stealing customer’s goods.
A 27-year-old wheelbarrow pusher in Lagos State, Ismaila Alidu on Friday pleaded guilty to theft of carton of combs and mirrors which he was paid to transport.
Alidu pleaded guilty on arraignment before an Igbosere Magistrates’ court.
Magistrate A. J. Adegun will on May 9 hear more facts about the alleged theft and then sentence the accused on the one-count charge.
The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ugwu told the court that the accused committed the alleged offence on May 3 at Alli-Balogun St., Lagos Island.
Ugwu said the accused diverted and stole the goods while carrying them for the owner who was yet to be identified.
He said the accused was caught while attempting to sell the goods as he could not give a satisfactory account of how he got them.
The prosecutor submitted that the value of the goods was yet unknown as the police had yet to identify the owner.
Ugwu said the alleged offence contravened Section 430 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

Woman arraigned for bathing another with pepper .




The police in Lagos on Friday arraigned a woman for allegedly pouring a mixture of water and ground pepper on another woman, after cutting her with a razor.
The accused, Obialo Eberedu (34), was charged before a Surulere Chief Magistrates court, but she pleaded not guilty to the five-count charge of assault, breach of peace and causing grievous harm.
The prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Olaide, told the court that Eberedu allegedly poured the mixture on one Miss Ijeoma Nwaimo on April 19 at No. 12, Olaitan St., Kilo, Aguda, Surulere.
He said the alleged offences contravened Sections 249 (d), 335, 355 and 351 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
Chief Magistrate Abiola Soladoye granted Eberedu bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till May 25 for further hearing.
