Joint inter-agency training reduces clashes - Chief of Army Staff.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Onyeabo Ihejirika has said joint inter agency training among the armed forces and the paramilitary agencies would reduce clashes.
Ihejirika, who made this known said that there was need for joint training to create similarity in actions.
He spoke at the opening of a five-day seminar on ``Democracy, Peace Building and conflict Management at the Nigerian Army College of Logistics, Lagos.
He also commended the efforts of the college, saying it would serve as an avenue for sharing experiences in collective fight against lawlessness and criminality.
Ihejirika said the armed forces had consistently and credibly assisted in managing internal unrest which threatened the peaceful co-existence of the nations democracy.
He said this through the Chief of Logistics, Nigerian Army, Major -General Boniface Azurunwa. Also speaking, the Executive Director, Impact for Change, Naomi Akpan-Ita commended the military and suggested the need for inter agency collaboration between the civilians and the military.
The representative of Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Klaus Paehler, commended the Nigerian government for the sustenance of its current democratic process.
In his remarks, Professor Pita Agbase urged the military to secure lives and not investors. The seminar was organized by the Nigerian College of Logistics in collaboration with Impact for Change and Development and Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
The theme of the workshop is ``The military and the Challenges of Managing Sectarian/Ethnic Crisis in a Democracy.
About 72 participants from the army, navy, air force, State Security Service, EFCC, FRSC, Immigration and men of the civil defence, are attending the workshop.
