Commercial motorcyclist jailed for snatching bag.
A Somolu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday sentenced a 22-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Kunle Oremosu, to two years in jail for bag snatching.
Oremosu had earlier pleaded guilty to the three-count charge of stealing, felony and snatching preferred against him.
The court, however, struck out the charge of felony.
The Senior Magistrate, Bola Osunsanmi, said since the accused had pleaded guilty to the offences the court had no option than to sentence him accordingly.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Adegoke Akinlebi, said the accused was caught by the police at Onipanu Bus Stop on June 2 at about 9.30 p.m. for snatching a bag from a woman while riding a motorcycle.
Akinlebi said the offence contravened Sections 390 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State..

Okada rider in court for allegedly stealing motorcycle.
A 29-year-old Okada rider, Abdullahi Mohammed, appeared on Wednesday before Senior Magistrate A. K. Shonubi for allegedly stealing a Bajaj motorcycle, valued at N102,000.
Mohammed is facing a two-count charge of felony and stealing at the Apapa Senior Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Police prosecutor Sgt. Uche Kalu told the court that the accused, with others still at large, committed the offence on May 17.
He said the accused and his cohorts stole the motorcycle at about 5.30 a.m. at Marine Beach, Apapa, Lagos.
He said the offence contravened Sections 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State 2003.
The accused, however, denied the two-count charge and was granted bail in the sum of N70,000 with one surety in like sum.
The case has been adjourned till June 21.

Sexagenarian arraigned for possession of guns, ammunition.
A 62-year-old man was on Wednesday arraigned at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for alleged unlawful possession of 350 assorted types of ammunition, a pistol and a rifle.
The accused, Longinus Anyanwu, is standing trial on a three-count charge of unlawful possession of ammunition.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Haruna Ibrahim, told the court that the accused committed the alleged offence on June 12, at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.
Ibrahim alleged that the accused was seen at the airport with one Saiga Assault Rifle with serial No. H09109159, one PF9 Pistol with serial No PUY47 and 350 assorted types of ammunition.
He said the accused could not give any satisfactory account of how he came in possession of the ammunition, rifle and the pistol.
He said the alleged offence contravened Section 428(d) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, O. A. Layinka, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case till Sept. 6, for mention.

Commercial driver docked for dangerous driving.
A commercial driver, Nurudeen Lateef, accused of dangerous driving was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly killing two persons.
Lateef, 48, is standing trial on a three-count charge of dangerous and reckless driving and manslaughter.
Lateef, who drives a Ford heavy duty vehicle for haulage, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Maimunat Folami granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Oladejo Balogun ,alleged that Lateef drove his van with Reg. No. BQ 771 AKD recklessly and caused the death of Lawal Olaniyi, 34, and Rita Ibraheem, 26.
Balogun said the accused committed the offence on Jan. 16 at about 8. 45p.m., along Olugede Road, Egbeda, Lagos.
He said the alleged offences contravened Sections 28(1), 27(1) and 45, Cap 124, Vol. 6 of the Road Traffic Law Act of Lagos State.
The court adjourned for further hearing to July 13.

Man arraigned for duping businesswoman.
The police on Wednesday arraigned a middle-aged man, Akinade Adedigba, for allegedly obtaining bags of flours worth N293, 500 from a businesswoman , under pretence.
Adedigba is standing trial before an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining goods under false pretence.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Unawunwa, told the court that the accused posed as the director of Baba Ilenla Bakery, collected the bags of flours from one Risikatu Fatuntele.
He said the accused collected the flours from Fatuntele under the pretence of using it to bake bread and pay her back after sale.
Unawunwa said the accused reneged on the agreement and was later apprehended.
He said the accused committed the offence on Dec. 11, 2010 at about 2.51 p. m. at Iyana Ira, Ojo, Lagos.
He said his action contravened Sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code Cap 17 Vol. 11 Laws of Lagos State.
The Chief Magistrate, Oluyemisi Adelaja, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
She directed that the surety should show evidence of tax payment.
Adelaja subsequently adjourned further hearing till June 20.

Court orders police to complete charge.
A Surulere Magistrates Court in Lagos on Wednesday described as incomplete a charge of attempted stealing preferred against a 23-year-old man, Ndubueze Ite.
Senior Magistrate M.K.O. Fadeyi said the charge did not disclose what Ite was accused of attempting to steal.
He ordered the police to complete the charge before the next adjourned date.
Fadeyi granted the accused bail in the sum of N20, 000 with one surety after Ite pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge.
The senior magistrate adjourned the case till June 23 for further hearing.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Samuel Ishola had submitted that Ite, who claims to be a footballer, was caught on June 3 while attempting to steal at Itolo St., Surulere.
He, however, did not say what the accused allegedly attempted to steal.
Ishola told the court that the accused had no specific address and had been terrorising residents of the street.
He said the alleged offence contravened Section 509 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
