Court remands 4 armed robbery accused in prison
An Apapa Senior Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Friday ordered four armed robbery accused to be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons.
The accused, Waheed Idowu, 32; Kamali Mamodu, 28; Dayo Balogun, 20 and Akeem Yusuf, 18 were charged with robbing their victims, mostly passersby, of their money and cell-phones.
Cpl. Friday Inedu, the prosecutor, had earlier told the court that the accused with others, still at large, used charms and dangerous weapons to commit the crime.
Ifedu alleged that the accused committed the crime on May 19 at about 1 a.m. at Alafia-Alasia Junction in the Ijora-Badia area of Lagos.
He said the alleged offence breached Sections 402 and 403 of the Criminal Code of Lagos State.
The court did not take the pleas of the accused persons because it lacked the jurisdiction to do so.
Senior Magistrate Amos Adeyemi, however, adjourned the case till July 20 when the court would have been received an advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
“You are to be remanded in prison custody because of the gravity of the offence you are alleged to have committed,” Adeyemi told the accused.

Sales attendant docked for stealing N25 million.
A 24-year-old sales attendant, Grace Dawodu has appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, charged with stealing N25 million.
The money, according to the prosecution, belonged to Esther Olufunmilayo Nig. Ltd, a firm that deals in textiles.
The accused was arraigned before Chief Magistrate A. I. Akinkugbe on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Daniel Apochi, told the court that the accused committed the alleged offence between January 2004 and May 2005 at Iddo, Lagos.
Apochi said the accused was working as a sales attendant and was in charge of lodging payment of payments into the company’s account.
The prosecutor said the alleged offence contravened Section 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The court granted the accused bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till June 22, for further hearing.

Man forges cheque to defraud UBA of N2.6m.
The police in Lagos have arraigned a man who allegedly forged a cheque in his attempt to defraud the United Bank for Africa (UBA) of N2.6 million.
The accused, Chris Ayeni, 42, is standing trial on a four-count charge of conspiracy, attempted fraud, forgery and impersonation.
The prosecutor, Cpl Innocent Ogugbo, said that the accused and others still at large committed the alleged offence on May 5 at a branch of the UBA on Lagos Island.
Odugbo alleged that the accused forged a cheque with No. 82759705 and posed as one Solomon Uwakwe in an attempt to withdraw the N2.6 million from the bank.
He said the alleged offence contravened Sections 411, 465, 484 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate M. O. Ogunsanya granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case has been adjourned till July 5 for further hearing.

Storekeeper charged with stealing 450 bags of sugar.
A 44-year old storekeeper with the Nigeria Bottling Company Plc, Abayomi Dada, has appeared before an Ebute Meta Magistrates Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing 450 bags of sugar, worth N2.8 million.
Dada is standing trial on a one-count charge of stealing before Magistrate A.O. Doja-Ojo.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Emmanuel Ajayi, told the court that the accused committed the alleged offence between Sept. 1 and Sept 25, 2010 at the company’s premises in Ikeja.
Ajayi said the accused was hiding bags of sugar during the period until it amounted to 450 bags.
He submitted that the alleged offence contravened Section 370 (7) (b) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was granted bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till July 27 for trial..

Man in court for stealing N795, 000.
A middle-aged man was on Friday charged before an Apapa Senior Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing N795, 000.
The accused, Mufutau Aremu, 53, who is facing a one-count charge of stealing, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Inedu, said that the accused, a security guard, stole the money belonging to Oceanic Campus Company Ltd, his employer.
He said the offence, which was committed on May 6 at No. 9, Lisabi Road, Apapa, Lagos, contravened Section 390 (4) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The accused, on conviction, may spend seven years in prison.
The Senior Magistrate, Amos Adeyemi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government, as part of the bail conditions.
The case was adjourned till June 23 for further hearing.

Motor dealer bags 2 years in prison for theft.
An Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, has sentenced an automobile dealer, Emmanuel Onyejekwe, to two years imprisonment for stealing.
Magistrate M.O. Olubi ordered that Onyejekwe, 47, be locked up at the Ikoyi Prisons without an option of fine.
He said the convict should serve his two-year jail term with hard labour as he deserved no mercy from the court since he lied during his testimonies.
Olubi said the sentence would also serve as a deterrent to others who think that they could always get away with criminality.
The convict was arraigned on March 11, 2009 and was given a bail in the sum of N500,000 after pleading not guilty to the one-count charge of theft.
The prosecutor, Insp. Samuel Omoyeni, told the court that Onyejekwe collected a Mercedes Benz salon car from Mr Hevy Okaro under the pretence of selling the car and remitting the proceeds to him.
Omoyeni said the convict sold the car for N1.3 million and only remitted a part of it.
He further alleged that Onyejekwe converted N450,000 from the proceeds into his personal use.
The prosecutor said the convict committed the offence on October 8, 2007 at Sunrise Car Park, Apapa.
He said the offence contravened Section 390 (8)(E) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

Alleged cultist accused of killing friend Thirty-three year-old Destiny Osaigbovo, alleged to have killed his friend, Sunday Okocha, over the latter’s refusal to join a cult, has appeared before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The accused appeared before Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko.
According to the charge sheet, Osaigbovo allegedly stabbed Okocha on his left leg over his refusal to join a cult group.
The plea of the accused was not taken as the court had written to the state Director of Public Prosecutions for his advice.
The court, however, ordered Osaigbovo to be remanded in prison custody pending when the advice would be received.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Ishiaku Babaji, told the court that the accused and the deceased were at a beer parlour drinking when Osaigbovo demanded that the later join his cult group.
Babaji said a fight ensued between both men over the issue and the deceased used a plastic chair to hit the accused and ran away.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State.
According to him, the offence is punishable with death on conviction.
The magistrate adjourned the case till July 22 for further hearing.

Estate agent arraigned for defrauding 102 prospective tenants
A 36-year-old estate agent, Adeyemo Abiodun, was charged for allegedly swindling 102 prospective tenants of N40 million.
Abiodun is standing trial on 205-count charge of stealing and fraud and an additional one-count charge of conspiracy before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The prosecutor, SP Asuquo Effiong, told the court that the accused committed the alleged offences between Oct. 2010 and May 2011 in Isolo, Lagos.
He put that the total amount the accused falsely obtained from the prospective tenants at N40 million.
The prosecutor said the alleged offence contravened Sections 390(9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Chief Magistrate A. I. Akinkugbe granted the accused bail in the sum of N5 million with two responsible sureties in like sum.
She also ordered the accused to summit his passport to the court.
The case was adjourned till July 4 for further hearing.

Woman in court for house breaking.
A woman, who allegedly burgled a businesswoman’s house and stole property worth N197,000, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Senior Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, Bose Waheed, 27, is facing a five-count charge of felony, stealing, burglary, possession of implements for house breaking and unlawful entry.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Uche Kalu, told the court that Waheed, with others still at large, broke into Mrs Biola Ogunyemi’s house at 76, Railway Line, Ijora-Badia in Apapa, at night and stole her property.
Kalu said the stolen property included one HP laptop (N129,000), one LG handset phone (N13,500), one Zoom handset phone (N7,500), three Nokia handsets (N22,000) and N25,000 cash, all totaling N197,000.
He said the offence, committed on May 23 at about 3 a.m., contravened Sections 390 (9), 412, 417, 430 (1) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State 2003.
The prosecutor alleged that Waheed was also found in possession of a Hitachi television, L.G. DVD and Super Master stabilizer which she could not give satisfactory account for.
Kalu added that the accused was in possession of implements for house breaking, such as a chisel and a hammer.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, A. K. Shonubi, granted her N50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till June 20 for further hearing.

Man, 25, in court for stripping Jeep.
A 25 year-old man was arraigned before an Apapa Senior Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stripping a Pathfinder Jeep, following an unlawful entry into a house.
The accused, Saheed Muniru, is facing a two-count charge of unlawful entry and stealing.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Inedu, told the court that the accused, Mr Saheed Muniru, broke into the Ajegunle residence of Mr Bolaji Olokodami’s and removing a number of items from the vehicle where it was parked.
Inedu said the accused removed the vehicle’s engine, radiator, car stereo, kick starter and front wheel axle, all valued at N270,000.
He said the offence, which was committed on May 10, 2011, contravened Sections 390 (9) and 411 (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State 2003.
Muniru, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Senior Magistrate, Amos Adeyemi, granted the accused N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till June 22 for further hearing.

Employee in court over N1m theft.
An employee of a Lagos-based computer company was arraigned before a Somolu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing the company’s property, worth N1,048,484,03.
The prosecutor, Insp. Adegoke Akinlebi, said that accused, Peter Eboatu, 37, stole the items from Zinox Technology Limited between 2007 and 2010.
The offence, according to Akinlebi, contravened Sections 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate,Bola Osunsanmi, granted the accused N500,000 bail, with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case till July 15 for trial.

Police arraign fashion designer over assault.
For allegedly hitting a businessman with a bottle on his forehead, the police in Lagos arraigned a fashion designer before a Somolu Magistrates’ Court, charged with assault.
The prosecutor, Insp. Adegoke Akinlebi, told the court that the accused, Mr Babatunde Ojomu, 36, unlawfully used a bottle to hit Mr Jide Osonaike on the forehead.
According to the prosecutor, the accused also caused the complainant bodily harm on his face, as well as injuries on his left shoulder.
Akinlebi said the accused damaged the door and windows of Osonaike’s property, all valued at N19,000.
The offence, according to Akinlebi, contravened Sections 451and 355 Cap. C38 of the Criminal Code, laws of Lagos State.
The Senior Magistrate, Bola Osunsanmi, granted the accused N50,000 bail with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till July 1 for trial.
