Retired Commander challenges young officers to uphold military discipline.
Retired Maj.-Gen. Augustine Ogunedo, former Commander, Nigerian Army Training and Doctrine Command, has urged young officers not to compromise military discipline within the democratic dispensation.
He spoke during a pulling-out parade organised for him and 15 other officers of the Nigerian Army Signal Corps in Lagos.
The retired officer said that the pride of a fulfilled soldier was loyalty to the military call until retirement, without any stain of indiscipline.
``After 36 years of meritorious and active service to our fatherland, there is no better way to assess the discipline of a body of troops than the quality of their performance,’’ he said
Ogunedo also urged senior officers to exploit the opportunities offered by Information and Communication Technology (ICT) towards becoming global icons.
Another retiree, Lt.-Col. Abdulraziz Yar’adua, the younger brother to Late President Umar Yar’adua, told newsmen that there was no better place than being in the Nigerian military.
The Commander of the Signal Corps, Maj.- Gen. Collins Ariahu, told newsmen that the best thing that could happen to a soldier was to serve until retirement without blemish.
``Pulling out a retired soldier is a way of saying thank you for the job well done without any blemish, it is the best thing that makes a soldier fulfilled,’’ he said
He lamented that though it could be sad losing them, it was left for the young ones to also come up.
Some other retired officers pulled out included Maj.-Gen. Abdul Dambatta, Maj.-Gen. Suleiman Wali, and Brig.-Gen. Oluseyi Adesanya.
Two Colonels and eight other Lieutenant Colonels were also part of the retirees.
