FRSC CORP MARSHALL OSITA CHIDOKA

FRSC says accident rate drops by 4 per cent

The Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the FRSC, Osita Chidoka, said in Lokoja, that there had been a four cent drop in the number of accidents in 2011.

Chidoka who made this known to newsmen while leading a team of officials to monitor traffic movement on the Lokoja-Abuja road, said that 4,000 road accidents were recorded this year as against the 4,456 recorded within the same period in 2010.

He, however, said more deaths were recorded this year by about 15 per cent.

Chidoka who was reluctant to give more figures, promised that the commission would make public, details, including statistics very soon.

He expressed delight over the free movement of traffic on Abuja-Lokoja-Okene road and other major roads in the country.

The corps marshal attributed this to the good working relations among relevant agencies and huge resources committed by the Federal Government to traffic management this year.

Chidoka said to ensure free movement during the Christmas and the New Year, 500 patrol vehicles, two helicopters and over 30,000 personnel were deployed to all major roads in different parts of the country.

He reminded motorists plying the routes to always drive with care and avoid night journeys, saying that it was the responsibility of all Nigerians to ensure that the road was safe for everybody’s use.

FRSC warns Kano commercial motorcyclists against overloading

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kano State has warned commercial motorcyclists in the state to desist from carrying more than one passenger at a time.

Sector Commander in the state, Ahmed Kogari who gave the warning in Kano said defaulters would be made to face the wrath of the law if they failed to heed the warning.

Kogari said the warning is necessary in view of the fact that some of the commercial motorcyclists are now in the habit of carrying more than one passenger, particularly in the state capital and other major towns of the state.

Kogari also warned the commercial motorcyclists to ensure that they always observe traffic rules and regulations while riding their motorcycles.

``The command will not hesitate to arrest anyone found violating the order or any of the traffic rules and regulations,’’ he said.

The Sector Commander advised motorists and other road users in the state to avoid over-speeding and reckless driving, especially during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

“There is an increase in the number of vehicles plying the roads during this period, hence the need for all road users to exercise caution while driving,” he said
