Ogun launches Security Trust Fund, begins joint military operation
The Ogun Government has launched a Security Trust Fund to tackle the security challenges currently bedevilling the state.
The past few months armed robbery attacks had increased in Ogun forcing banks and business to close shops and paralysing commercial activities.
In his address at the launch, Governor. Ibikunle Amosun, said government was ready to partner with various groups and individuals toward ensuring the safety of lives and property.
He urged banks and other business operators in the state to donate generously to the fund and gave the assurance
that the trustees of the fund would make good use of the money realised.
Amosun said more efforts would be geared toward achieving a crime-free state ``and the essence of the fund is to support the government in tackling all types of security challenges in the state''.
``We shall deploy resources to ensure that we have safe and secure environments.
``I, therefore, enjoin citizens, residents, well-wishers and corporate bodies in Ogun and beyond to rally round government in ensuring adequate funding for effective security in our dear state.''
He announced that the state government had bought 60 double cabin patrol vans fitted with sophisticated communication gadgets to facilitate easy communication.
The governor added that the government had also placed an order for the procurement of 10 Armored Personnel Carriers (APC) ``and the APCs will arrive in the state very soon''.
Amosun said that the fund would promote the efficiency of security agencies to achieve a crime-free state.
He then inaugurated an 11-man committee, headed by a former National Security Adviser, retired Col. Kayode Are, to manage the affairs of the fund.
Are, who reacted on behalf of the members, thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve and promised to live up to their expectations.
He said, ``For me, this is not about appointment; it’s an opportunity to serve. With the calibre of persons on the committee and your willingness to allow us to be independent, the sky will be our limit.'
