CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF

Normalcy has returned to Maiduguri.

The Military Joint Task Force (JTF) said it had shot a suspected Boko Haram militant after Thursday's multiple explosions in Maiduguri.
No fewer than three explosions rocked different parts of the city, creating fears among the residents.
The JTF spokesman, Lt.-Col. Hassan Ifijeh, however, told newsmen in Maiduguri that normalcy had been restored, saying ``it is true that we had multiple explosions on Thursday in the evening.
``The explosions took place in three places, namely the Timba Market on Baga Road, in Bulumkutu and also near the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation’s Depot."
Ifijeh said the JTF tracked the perpetrators after the incident, noting that ``one of the attackers was shot by the military and he died in the process.''
He said some Improvised Explosive Devices were uncovered at the Timba Market after a military operation.
The task force spokesman added that the attacks were targeted at unsuspecting members of the public, appealing to Maiduguri residents to be vigilant at all times.
``The targets of the attacks were the people, who are mostly downtrodden.
``They are trying to incapacitate the government by destroying infrastructure that cost tax payers huge sums of money to build.
``Individuals must rise against the Boko Haram members by reporting suspicious movements to law enforcement agents.
