FRSC introduces `Roll of Shame’ register for high calibre traffic offenders
The FRSC has introduced a Roll of Shame register to book high calibre personalities, who disobey traffic rules during its nationwide special patrol for the yuletide.
Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the FRSC, Osita Chidoka announced the measure at meeting with stakeholders in the transport sector on Friday in Abuja.
Chidoka said the Roll of Shame register was necessary to book the personalities because they should be role models rather than committing road traffic infractions.
``The FRSC has established a ``Roll of Shame’’ register to accommodate high calibre personalities, who are supposed to be role models but chose to commit road traffic infractions,’’ he said.
He said commission would embark on a special patrol between Dec. 20 and Jan. 8, 2012 with focus on traffic control, clearing of obstructions, overloading and over speeding, as well as enforcement of traffic regulations.
Chidoka warned motorist to avoid recklessness, as sanctions await erring motorists, including the use of mobile courts to try and punish offenders.
He said that 481 patrol vehicles, nine towing trucks, 50 ambulances, 198 motorcycles and two helicopters would be mobilised to support some 30,000 operatives that had been deployed to designated routes across the highways.
Also speaking, Alhaji Najeem Yashim, the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, commended the FRSC for taking steps to ensure a hitch-free celebration.
Yashim said the union would educate its members on the need to abide by traffic rules and gave the assurance that they would cooperate with the commission to ensure free flow of traffic during the period.
