Commercial bus driver faces manslaughter charge.

A 36-year-old commercial bus driver has appeared before a Surulere Magistrate’s Court on a one-count charge of manslaughter.

The prosecution alleged that the accused, Chukwudi Ekeh, drove recklessly a Toyota Hiace bus, with registration no. XF 446 AWK, and in the process knocked down one Mrs Theresa Nko.

Sgt. Idowu Onime, the prosecutor, told the court that Nko, 50, of 5, Owodunni St., Amukoko, a Lagos suburb, was later confirmed dead.

He said the incident occurred on June 3 at the Alafia Bus Stop on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The offence, according to Onime, contravenes Section 29 of the Road Traffic Act, Laws of Lagos State.

The accused, whose address was not given, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mukaila Fadeyi, admitted him to bail in the sum of N250, 000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Aug. 18 for further hearing.
