Man docked for allegedly forging treasury and revenue receipts.

For allegedly stealing N939,740 and forging the Lagos State Government Treasury and Revenue receipts, a 42-year-old man was on Monday arraigned at an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos.

Ayoola Tella, who claimed to be an employee of the State Development Association, is facing a 15-count charge of impersonation, fraud, forgery, stealing and unlawful possession before Magistrate T. Abolarinwa,

The prosecutor, Insp. Jack Asuquo, told the court that the defendant forged the Lagos State Government revenue receipt No. 5509104/ZXASDRP dated Dec. 17, 2008 in favour of one Moses Bamidele.

Asuquo said Tella, along with others still at large, also forged a state treasury receipt No. 000871268 dated July 10, 2008 and a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) No. 14/4/2007AN dated Oct. 25, 2007.

He explained that the forged C of O was for a property at No. 33 Funsho Owoyemi St., Abule Egba, Lagos.

According to Asuquo, `` Tella also forged a letter of approval of structure with No. EPP/2008/IKJ/AG dated July 4, 2008 which was purported to have been issued by the Lagos State Ministry of Environment, Alausa, Lagos.

He also forged an Intercontinental Bank teller and some deposit slips for the state taxes in favour of the complainant,’’ the prosecutor said.

The prosecutor said the accused stole N939,740 from one Sakariyau Bello under the pretext of issuing him a C of O from the Lagos State Government.

He said the incident took place in September 2007 at No. 33 Owoyemi St., Abule Egba, Lagos.

He said the offence was contrary to Sections 390 (9), 430, 465, 468, and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State and punishable with seven years’ imprisonment.

The accused pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Abolarinwa adjourned the case till Aug. 19 for further hearing.
