Judge berates AIG for insulting counsel in court.

Justice Mufutau Olokooba of a Lagos High Court has berated Felix Ogbaudu, an Assistant Inspector General of Police for insulting a lawyer in his court.

Ogbaudu is the ninth prosecution witness in the ongoing trial of Hamzat Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State Sani Abacha.

Mustapha and three others are standing trial for alleged attempted murder of the publisher of the Guardian Newspapers,Alex Ibru.

The other accused are James Danbaba, a former Commissioner of Police, Col. Yakubu Jubrin, former Military Administrator of Zamfara and CSP Rabo Lawal.

At the resumed hearing of the matter Ogbaudu had, while being cross examined, said the defence counsel, Olalekan Ojo, was saying rubbish for not pronouncing words properly.

The judge told the police chief to be mindful of his choice of words.

The court reminded the AIG that Ojo was a minister in the court and should, therefore, be treated with respect.

In his testimony, Ogbaudu told the court that the tapes tendered as exhibits, containing the recording of investigations conducted by the Special Investigation Panel, were forwarded to the Attorney General of the Federation.

The police chief, then a Deputy Commissioner, headed the Panel that investigated the accused persons.

Olokooba adjourned the case till Aug. 31 for continuation of hearing.
