Crime rate down by 75 percent in Lagos, SAYS Fashola

Governor Babatunde Fashola says crime rate has reduced by 75 percent in Lagos State.

Fashola attributed the feat to the anti-crime strategies of the Police and the state Neighbourhood Watch.

He commended the security agencies for effectively fighting crime in the state.

Reporting of serious criminal activities to the police has also improved and this has helped millions of residents and investors to carry out their activities under a conducive atmosphere.

The governor urged the security agencies and the people to also ensure violence-free elections in 2011.

Fashola also appealed to the Community Development Associations to protect the projects from being vandalized.

Commissioner for Rural Development, Olanrewaju Balogun, said the amenities were part of the 500 projects approved by the state government aimed at transforming the rural areas.

Chairman, Nigeria Army Housing Estate, Ojo-Alaba, Olu Baiyekusi, thanked the state government for providing the community a 500KVA transformer.

The projects inaugurated included rural electrification, water schemes, neighbourhood watch posts, fish ponds and transformers.
