The Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday sentenced a 30-year-old estate agent, Muyideen Edidi, to two years imprisonment for duping a lawyer of N455,000.
The prosecutor, Insp. Phillip Ugbodu, said the accused obtained N455,000 from one Taiwo Obajimi, a lawyer, under the pretext of renting her a mini-flat.
Ugbodu said the accused absconded after collecting the money from the legal practitioner but was later arrested.
He said the accused committed the crime on Nov. 7, 2009 in Ojuelegba along with one Rotimi, now at large.
The accused had earlier pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing during his arraignment on Feb. 24, 2010.
In her sentence, the magistrate, Kemi Doja-Ojo, said the imprisonment would serve as a deterrent against similar crime-minded individuala.
