A 40-year-old man was has charged before an Apapa Chief Magistrate’s Court over the alleged theft of 30 tonnes of iron rods valued at N10 million.
The accused, Nelson Aghafum, who is facing a two-count charge of felony and stealing, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Cpl. John Iberedem, said the accused with others still at large conspired and stole the iron rods, property of a businessman, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim.
He said the offence which was committed on July 23 at Tin Can Island 2nd Gate Park, Apapa, Lagos, contravened Sections 390 (6) (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The accused, on conviction, may be sentenced to seven years imprisonment.
Chief Magistrate, O.O. Oshin, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties, who should be blood relations of the accused, should show evidence of three-year tax clearance.
The case has been adjourned till Nov. 24 for further hearing.
