An Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, on Friday remanded Akeem Lawal, 25, in the Ikoyi Prisons for alleged murder of a police sergeant.
Lawal, whose plea was not taken, is standing trial before a Senior Magistrate, Mrs M. O. Olajunwo, on a two-count charge of conspiracy to murder and murder.
Olajuwon directed that the accused be detained in prison pending the advice from the office of the State Director of Public Prosecution.
The prosecutor, Sgt Ayorinde Ezekiel told the court that Lawal and others still at large, on July 27 at Akowonjo in Alimosho LGA attacked some policemen on duty with stones and machetes.
Ezekiel said the mob attack consequently led to the death of Sgt. Pius Anoh.
According to him, residents of the area later identified the accused as being part of the mob that attacked the police patrol.
The prosecutor said police investigation revealed that the accused-- of no fixed address and livelihood-- participated in the attack.
He said the offence contravened Sections 324 and 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The Magistrate adjourned the case till Nov. 11 for further hearing.
